SUMMARY:Commemorative Event - Amherst Prisoner of War Camp
DESCRIPTION:On Tuesday\, a Commemorative Event will be held at the Amherst Armoury\, in recognition of the German and Ukrainian prisoners and the 250 Canadian soldiers who stood guard over the Amherst Prisoner of War Camp. It housed 853 POW’s a hundred years ago. Doors open at the Armoury on Acadia Street at 10:30.  The highlight of the event will be a concert by the German Luftwaffe Erfurt Band\, which will be sending 42 musicians to the Amherst.  The concert starts at 11:30am and goes to 1:00pm. A reception will follow.  The event will also include a slide show with great historic photos of the camp\, dozens of models\, toys and artifacts made by the prisoners.  A diorama of the camp has been made and much more.  Admission is free.
