The Municipality of Cumberland is looking for people to serve on a number of boards. Two people are needed for the board of the Cumberland Energy Authority, 3 people for the RCMP Management Advisory Committee, 3 people for the Audit and Financial Sustainability Committee and 2 people to join the Border Entrance Committee. You can support the Springhill and Parrsboro Lions Clubs by participating in their monthly fundraiser. Go to rafflebox.ca/lionsclub. Select Springhill or Parrsboro Lions from the drop down menu. The money they raise goes directly to that group. Covid-19 has changed how Lions Clubs in Nova Scotia raise money. Cheers to the New Year is the first event of our Virtual #seewhyweloveit Run Series in Amherst. It  goes from Jan 1st- 31st. The cost is $20 for each participant. A portion of the profits from this event (and each event) will go towards a local charity or not for profit. January's Charity is the Amherst Food Bank. The distances are: 5k, 10k, 21k, 42k, and 52k. The Amherst Fire Department is starting their Annual Recruitment Program and is looking for new members to join their team. The 6th Annual Great Canadian Snowman Challenge is on for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Build a snowman, or snow sculpture. Send a photo of your creation, with who built it including its name. E-transfer your $10 donation to Daren White and the B.K. Believers Relay for Life team. 100% will be forwarded to the Canadian Cancer Society. Together last year over $550 was raised. The Town of Amherst is looking for candidates for the Athletic Achievers Award. The award is for individuals and teams that have, as amateurs, captured a gold medal at the provincial, Maritime, Atlantic or Eastern Canadian level, won a bronze, silver or gold medal at the national or international level or received special recognition for their achievements from their governing sports body between January and December 2020. Cumberland County Hospice Palliative Care Society is selling tickets on a Beautiful Diamond Ring Set. Tickets are $10 each and only 100 tickets will be sold. Draw date is Friday February 12 or when all tickets are sold. They are available at their office in the Amherst Centre, call 902-669-0261 or available from their volunteers. Stop by their office to see ring set. The size is 6 ¾, the most common woman’s size.
