Springhill’s Annual Youth Fishing Derby
Springhill’s Annual Youth Fishing Derby is Sat June 9 from 11-2 at the Pit Pond. It’s for ages 15 and under. There will be prizes for the longest fish caught. Communities in Bloom will be holding a BBQ on site. Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult. The fish derby is sponsored by the Dr Carson and Marion Murray Community Center.

The Country View 4H Club is holding a Father’s Day Take Out June 17th. Lobster Rolls for $18 or Pulled Pork sandwich for $15. Both include salads, dessert and drink. You have to pre-order by Sunday June 10, by calling 902-661-4340. Pick up will be between 11:30 and 1 at the Linden Hall. Proceeds to the Country View 4-H Club.

This year marks the 60th Anniversary of the 1958 Bump in the Springhill Collieries. Springhill Miners' Memorial / Davis Day Service will be held Monday, June 11th begining at 1 in the All Saints Anglican Church Junction Rd Springhill. Laying of wreaths immediately following in the Miners' Memorial Park followed by a reception in the Anglican Parish hall. For further information call Clare 597-2886. Autumn House presents Pride Movie Night, Tue June 12 at 7 at the Four Fathers Memorial Library. It’s the summer of 1984 and much of blue-collar Great Britain is on strike. For one tiny Welsh village, the strike brings unexpected visitors- a group of London-based activists who decide to raise money to support the strikers’ families and want to make their donation in person. The Cumberland Y Service Club presents the 9th Annual Cross Border Dickey Park Children’s Fun Run, Sat June 16 from 10-1 at Dickey Park. Families with children 3-12 are invited to participate. Entry if free, but you have to register by Wed June 13 at the Y. Medals will be awarded to all participants. If you make a donation to the Jumpstart Program, you could win a $120 bicycle voucher from Canadian Tire.
