Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day
The Soar Community Health Board, the YMCA of Cumberland and the Town of Amherst are holding a Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day, Thursday Dec 21 at 4:15 at Victoria Square. You are invited to join them and remember those who have died from homelessness.

An Evening of Art in support of Autumn House, is Saturday Jan 20 from 7- midnight at Amherst Regional High. The evening showcases local artists and gives you a chance to win one of a kind creations. For Autumn House proceeds support crisis intervention, shelter, outreach counselling and advocacy. Tickets and more information will be available next week.

The YMCA of Cumberland will be replacing the gymnasium floor. The installation of the wood floor will begin on December 14, and the gym will be inaccessible until January 8. During that time, a temporary schedule will replace the current fitness program schedule. Check the Y’s facebook page or website for updates.

Teaser’s Annual Boxing Day Jam is Tuesday Dec 26 from 5-closing. There will be lots of local performers, helping to raise money to support the Food Bank.

The Holiday Food Drive continues until Dec 24 at local area supermarkets The Amherst Superstore is collecting food and cash donations for the Amherst Food Assistance Network Scott’s Your Independent Grocer in Oxford is also participating in the drive, supporting the Oxford and Area Food Bank Association. In Sackville, Rose’s Your Independent Grocer is supporting the Sackville and District Assistance Center.

The Amherst Fire Department’s Bingo jackpot this week is $9,900 in 49 numbers or less. Doors open at 6 every Friday, with early bird games starting at 6:50.

The Amherst Artisans Gallery and Market at the Amherst Center, are holding Christmas Family Days this weekend. Saturday from 8-11 it’s Breakfast With Santa. Pete Frenette will be performing on the market stage from 9-11. From 11-1 it’s R.A and Jack on the market stage. There will be a full Turkey Dinner from 11-2. Sunday afternoon the Shriners Clowns will be tying balloons at the Artisans market.

Maggie’s Place is having a Holiday Fun Day, Saturday from 10-noon at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There will be art, music, face painting and more. And they are also expecting a visit from a special guest. All children must be accompanied by an adult. And as with all Maggie’s Place programs this one is free.
