ATV Poker Rally
The Cumberland Off-Highway Vehicle Club their Annual ATV Poker Rally in support of Springhill Ground Search and Rescue Saturday Sept 16. Registration is from 9-11 at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center. The cost is $15 per ATV, $10 for extra hands. The Sutherland Steam Mill in Denmark near Tatmagouche is holding a Wood Carvers Show, a Soap Carving Workshop for kids and “ The Bed Sheet” Vintage Movie Hour. It's Sat Sept 16 from 10:30-3. Space is limited for the workshop, which runs from 1-2. The film hour starts at 11, There will also be a BBQ from 11:30-1. Admission is a donation to the museum. The Beaubassin Viewing Park and Interpretative Site opens Saturday at 1:30 in Fort Lawrence. MP Bill Casey and Lieutenant Governor, the Honorable Arthur LeBlanc will unveil an Historic Site plaque, you will get a chance to walk the site and enjoy refreshments.

The 2017 Terry Fox Run is Sunday September 17. This year both the 5K Grandmothers and Family Walk and the 10k will start at the same time. The run will be at Dickey Park again this year. Registration is at 9am and the run will start at 10:00 am. You will have the option of using the walking track to complete the run or the route through town. A Field Leader-Hiking Course is being offered in Parrsboro Saturday and Sunday Sept 23 and 24. Participants will receive Outdoor Council of Canada national certification. The cost is between $100 and $125. Register at hikenovascotia.ca by Sept 18.

Science Literacy Week is Sept 17-24. The week highlights scientists and science communicators from coast to coast. On Thursday Sept 21 at 11, Major Melissa Reyes, with the Ottawa Research Center of Defense Research and Development Canada, will present an illustrated talk at the Joggins Fossil Center. Science is driving the adaptation of Canadian Armed Forces operations and capabilities. She will talk about that during her presentation. The presentation is free.
