The 10th Annual Show and Shine at Heritage Models Museum, is Sunday Aug 13 from 9-3

The Blessing of the Crops Mass is Sunday Aug 13 at 2 at St. Denis Church. It will be followed by a reception at St Thomas Aquinas Church Hall in Joggins. There is a concert at 6 in St Denis Church, with the Terrio Sisters and Friends. The Amos Seaman School Museum, St Denis Church and King Seaman Church are open 10-6 daily until Sept 1. The Annual Shinimicas Cemetery Service is Sunday, Aug 13 at 3. Lawry MacLeod will be officiating. Proceeds to the Shinimicas Cemetery.

The Amherst Lions are nominating Lions Park in the Kraft Heinz Project Play competition. From all the nominations received, a final 4 will be selected. Then there is a 24 hour voting process, on Sept 9. The winner gets $250,000 to upgrade their facility. Nominations end at midnight this Friday. Several nominations for Lions Park have already been received. Check them out on the Kraft Heinz website kraftheinzprojectplay.com. You can include your nomination there too. Every nomination helps.

Canadian Blood Services in cooperation with the Amherst Lions Club are holding blood donor clinics Monday and Tuesday Aug 14-15 from 1-3 and 5-7 at the Amherst Lions Center. Their goal is 192 donations. Book your appointment at blood.ca or just drop in.

The Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a breakfast event, Meet Your MLA, Fri Aug 18 from 7:30-9 at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Center. MLA Elizabeth Smith McCrossin will share her mission and strategic goals for Cumberland North. There will also be a panel discussion with Cumberland North Business Leaders. The 52nd Nova Scotia Gem and Mineral Show is Aug 18-20 in Parrsboro. Over 30 vendors will be at the Parrsboro Lions Recreation Center daily from 10-5. Check their facebook page for more information.

The Pugwash Fire Department’s Mackerel Fishing Tournament is Sat and Sun Aug 19 and 20. There are cash prizes for the 4th biggest fish, including $500 for first place. There will also be prize draws following the final weigh ins Saturday and Sunday in Eaton park. And a BBQ Sat from 2-4.Register at the fire station between 6:30 and noon both days.
