National Aboriginal Day Celebrations
The Town of Amherst in cooperation with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada invite you to National Aboriginal Day Celebrations Wednesday June 21. The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Four Fathers Library at 11. There will be a parade at 11:15 to Victoria Square, for the Grand Entry at 11:30. The Pow Wow begins at noon, with renowned Aboriginal drummers and dancers. Throughout the afternoon Aboriginal, vendors will have displays in the park. For more information go to amherst.ca

The Lorne Street Stormwater Mitigation Project is underway in Sackville. While the work continues, the Sackville Legion wants you to know that they are open. If the road is closed, the sidewalks from Bridge St and Willow lane will remain open. You can park on Willow Lane and Main Street.

There will be a Take Out Supper, at the Linden Community Hall. Your choice of lobster rolls for $18 or pulled pork sandwiches for $15, with meals served with salads, dessert and drinks. Amherst Masons are holding a Canada 150 Breakfast, Sat June 24 from 7:30-10:30 at their hall on Lawrence Street. They will be serving pancakes, strawberries and whipped topping and sausages. The cost is $1.50 and take-outs will be available.

The 22nd Annual Kidney Foundation Golf Tournament is Sat June 24 at the Amherst Golf Club, with a shotgun start at 1. Registration is $75 for Amherst Golf Club members, $115 for non-members. Malagash United Church invites you to its Annual Church Supper on Sat. June 24 from 4-6 at the Malagash Community Hall, 1926 North Shore Road. At the buffet table will be casseroles, salads, beans, brown bread, rolls, biscuits and pie or cake for dessert and all homemade. Adults $12.00, children 12 and under $6.00, free for preschoolers.

There’s a Friends Helping Friends Fundraiser for Elena Rimski and family, completing their long journey to citizenship. It will be at Teasers Friday night from 8-1. Among the entertainers will be Naked on South Albion, Hannah Melanson, Kent Beattie and Corey Burbine. Admission is a donation at the door.

The Archway Insurance Cross Border Challenge is Sat June 24. This year a Summer Kickoff Beer Garden event has been added. It will be at the Amherst Stadium from 8:30-1:30 and feature Big Fish. Tickets are $15, $10 for Challenge runners. Get them at West Amherst Esso, Vogue Optical and the Cumberland Y. Proceeds from the Cross Border Challenge support the Cumberland Y and community projects.
