17th annual John Michels Sr. Ladder Sit
The Amherst Fire Department and the Amherst Fire Fighters Association are hosting the 17th annual John Michels Sr. Ladder Sit at the Walmart parking lot. Starting at noon Thursday til 2 Saturday, fire fighter Dwight Wheaton will spend 50 hours, in the bucket, doing his part, along with his fellow fire fighters in helping to raise funds for Muscular Dystrophy and other community projects supported by the Amherst Fire Fighters Association. Join the Cumberland Health Care Foundation Monday June 19 from 5-7 rain or shine, for a free Ice Cream Sundae, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center. There will be a BBQ by Weston Bakeries in support of youth mental health programs, for a freewill donation. There will be games for the kids and entertainment by Mike Blakeny. And there will be no charge for parking.

The Town of Amherst in cooperation with Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada invite you to National Aboriginal Day Celebrations Wednesday June 21. The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Four Fathers Library at 11. There will be a parade at 11:15 to Victoria Square, for the Grand Entry at 11:30. The Pow Wow begins at noon, with renowned Aboriginal drummers and dancers. Throughout the afternoon Aboriginal, vendors will have displays in the park. For more information go to amherst.ca

The Lorne Street Stormwater Mitigation Project is underway in Sackville. While the work continues, the Sackville Legion wants you to know that they are open. If the road is closed, the sidewalks from Bridge St and Willow lane will remain open. You can park on Willow Lane and Main Street.
