Open House Tours

Amherst Area Heritage Trust in conjunction with the Fibre Arts Festival invites yoou to 2 Open House Tours, Wednesday Oct 18 from 6-9. Check out the Rhodes Manor at the corner of Havelock and Robie Streets and the 2 Barkers Mansion at 6 Regent Street. Admission is $5 at the door. Proceeds support the work of Amherst Area Heritage Trust, to preserve, protect and promote Amherst’s unique heritage buildings.

Glow Bingo – AFD

Bottle Drive

There’s a Bottle Drive Saturday 9-12 in the Northport - Tidnish area to support the Northport School. You can drop your bottles off at the school from 9-12, or at #4000 Highway 6 from 9-11. You can also call for pickup Friday at 902-661-2932.

Art Across the Marsh

The Art Across the Marsh Studio Tour is Saturday and Sunday Oct 19 and 20th from 10-5. This the 20th year. Artisans from the Sackville, Amherst, Dorchester, Port Elgin, and Tidnish areas will be participating, with 19 stops on the tour. Zonta Club Bazaar

As part of the Fibre Arts Festival, the Amherst Zonta Club’s Bazaar is Saturday Oct 19. 10-4, at the Colonel James Layton Ralston Armoury. It will be packed with fibre vendors and great food. The Sisterhood will be there with a booth full of fibre goodies as well.

Y Baby Sitting Course

The next YMCA Babysitting Course will be offered on Saturday, October 19, 2019. It prepares youth with the necessary skills to care for infants, toddlers and youth. It includes diaper changes, bottle feeding, basic food preparation. HeartWalk

The Braveheart Support Society is hosting HeartWalk, Saturday Oct 19, at Dickey Park, to help raise awareness of Congenital Heart Disease. Registration is at noon. The 5K walk starts at 1, the 3K at 1:30. Bring the kids. There will be face painting and balloon art, and there will be food to purchase.

Apple Pressing Event

There’s a Wild Harvest Community Apple Pressing Event Saturday from 1-3 in Victoria Square in downtown Amherst. Bring your backyard or wild apples, press them into a fresh tasty juice. They will also have apple sauce demos and more. It’s presented by Eat Local Cumberland, and Waste Not Want Not, a Found Forgotten Food Community Hub.

Simons Family Haunted House and Trail

The Simons Family Haunted House and Trail is open this Saturday and next Saturday, at 1026 Valley Road. This year they have included a Zombie Field. The haunted house is open from 2-4 for children and 7-10 for adults. Admission is $5, with all money going to extra-curricular activities at Springhill schools.
