Meet the Candidates – Amherst

The Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce  is holding a Meet The Candidates event, Tuesday Oct 8, 6-9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Robie Street. It’s not a debate. It’s an opportunity to meet the candidates for Cumberland Colchester in the upcoming federal election. Candidates will have 10 minutes to introduce themselves and their plans and will be asked questions submitted by the local public and the Chamber. The only admission fee, is respectful behavior.

Fall Fair

The Amherst 50+ Club is holding a Fall Fair Saturday Oct 12 from 8-2 at their hall on Croft Street. There will be craft, bake and white elephant tables, full pantry, books and a chocolate bar wheel. There will be a door prize and much more. And check out the lunch special, a turkey burger, pie and tea or coffee for $7.

Springhill Communities in Bloom presents the 2nd Annual Turkey Trot 5K Walk/run, Saturday Oct 12 from 10-1, at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center. Music at the Mall

There’s Music at the Mall Saturday at the Amherst Center. Join Mark Landry at the market Café from 11-1. Then it’s Jerry Metz and Lost Highway from 1-3. As always, there will be a cash draw and door prizes. Ask about the 2nd Annual Collins Christmas Craft Village, beginning Nov 15. And there’s great food, with Caribbean, Korean and traditional cuisine at the Café.

Youth Guided Walk

The Adventure Therapy Project is holding a Youth Guided Hike, Saturday, from 11-2:30. The hike is for ages 7-14, and all participants should be able to complete the 4km route at a leisurely pace. If you want to learn more about unnecessary medical tests and procedures, plan to attend a public meeting, as part of the Choosing Wisely Nova Scotia Campaign. It’s a public event to introduce the campaign and to hear your thoughts. Choosing Wisely NS and Dr Kelly Morris will be the presenters. It’s tonight from 5:30-6:30 in Conference Rooms 1 and 2, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Center.
