Join the Isabel Simpson Heritage Center in celebrating Johnny Mooring’s induction into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame. The celebration is Thursday August 15 from 7:30-8:30, at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center. Special guests include Sharon Mooring Millar, the mc for the evening and musical guests the Carter Girls. Admission is free.

The Amherst and Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Panel Discussion on growing the economy of Cumberland North – “Cumberland North – Exceeding the Vision”, Thursday August 15 from 7:30-10, at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Center. MLA Elizabeth Smith-McCrossin will be leading the economic discussion and has invited five business leaders in the areas of Manufacturing, Mines and Energy, Lands and Forests, Agriculture, and Tourism to participate. ODE, Opening Doors for Everyone, is a presentation and information session regarding the NS Accessibility Act, Business ACCESS-Ability Grant Program, diversity awareness and inclusive business practices. The presentation is free and catered, and all participants leave with a resource bag filled with services and supports that go along with the workshop. The Town of Amherst is holding an Acadien Day Celebration Thursday Aug 15 noon-9:30. The Amherst Summer Night Market, will be behind Dayles Grand Market and will feature live music with Don Rigley and Michelle Daigle of Frantically Atlantic as they play a combination of Acadien, Celtic and original music. There will also be vendors and food trucks.

The Nova Scotia Gem and Mineral Show is Friday-Sunday, Aug 16-18, at the Parrsboro Lions Recreation Center. More than thirty exhibitors offer a broad mix of earth treasures. You’ll see fine mineral specimens, jewellery and jeweller’s supplies and precious stones and gem cutting tools; beads and beading tools; fossils, tumbled stones and more. The Wild Blueberry harvest Festival is Aug 14-31 in Cumberland County. Saturday Aug 17 it’s Wild Blueberry Day at the Pugwash Farmers Market The Pugwash Market Blueberry Festival is happening from 9-noon. They will have the Great Blueberry Bake-Off Competition, Blueberry Shortcake Fundraiser and tasty recipes.
