Blessing of the Crops
Due to construction on the Universalist Church in Minudie, the annual Minudie Heritage Association Quilt Show scheduled for this weekend will not be held this year. Sunday the Heritage Association will be holding the Blessing of the Crops Mass at the St Denis Church at 2. There will be a reception at St Thomas Aquinas Church Hall in Joggins afterward. Then there’s a concert with local entertainers at 6 at St. Denis Church. For more information call 902-251-2422.

The Heritage Models Museum in River Hebert is holding a Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt, Sunday Aug 11. Meet at the former Carquest building in Amherst Town Square, between 9 and 10:30. You will receive the route and a list of items needed to complete the scavenger hunt. The cost is $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. There will be a BBQ at the museum and prize draws. Guitar War in the Fort, is Sunday August 11 at Fort Beausejour. At 1, there is a special tasting of oysters from Oyster Beausoleil, and Beausoleil Broussard beer from the Fils du Roy Distillery, to highlight the opening of a New audio-visual presentation and exhibition of objects inspired by Acadian leader Beausoleil Broussard. The Guitar Wars begin at 2, with Denis Surette, Stephen LeBlanc, Jack Downs and Phillippe Desjardins. Bring your chairs or blankets and enjoy the free event.

Join the Isabel Simpson Heritage Center in celebrating Johnny Mooring’s induction into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame. The celebration is Thursday August 15 from 7:30-8:30, at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Center. Special guests include Sharon Mooring Millar, the mc for the evening and musical guests the Carter Girls. Admission is free.

ODE, Opening Doors for Everyone, is a presentation and information session regarding the NS Accessibility Act, Business ACCESS-Ability Grant Program, diversity awareness and inclusive business practices. The presentation is free and catered, and all participants leave with a resource bag filled with services and supports that go along with the workshop. The Town of Amherst is holding an Acadien Day Celebration Thursday Aug 15 noon-9:30. The Amherst Summer Night Market, will be behind Dayles Grand Market and will feature live music with Don Rigley and Michelle Daigle of Frantically Atlantic as they play a combination of Acadien, Celtic and original music. There will also be vendors and food trucks.
