Play in the Mud

Friday is International Mud Day. Springhill Recreation invites you to come out and Play in the Mud with them, Friday from noon-4 at the Lions Park Natural Playground. All ages are welcome, but be sure to bring a change of clothes, because it’s going to get messy.

The Mob and Music at the Mall

There’s The Mob and Music at the Mall, at the Amherst Center Saturday. Author Neil Gordon, who’s family is from Oxford, will be at the Market and Café from 11-12:30, to talk about his book Tony Accardo is Joe Batters. He ruled his criminal empire from the depths of the shadows, he influenced national policy, exploited the FBI, owned Supreme Court Justices and fixed presidential elections. National Pickleball Day

The Amherst Pickleball Group is celebrating National Pickleball Day, Saturday August 10, at the Church Street Tennis Court. They will be holding a tournament from 9-11. From 11-3 you can learn to play, equipment supplied, and there’s a free hotdog BBQ from 11-1.

New R.B. Dickey Display – Cumberland County Museum

The Cumberland County Museum will be hosting the great-great grandchildren of Robert Barry Dickey, one of the Fathers of Confederation and the first owner of the home that is now the museum, Saturday August 10 from 2-4. The family of R.B. Dickey sent artifacts to the museum last year and will be bringing more with them. There will be a garden party in the front yard of the museum, and we are invited to see the new display.

Country Supper

There will be a Country Supper, Saturday Aug 10 at the Linden Community Hall, from 3:30-6. There will be hot and cold dishes, dessert and beverage for $12. The supper is $6 for those 11 and up and free for pre-schoolers.

Blessing of the Crops

Due to construction on the Universalist Church in Minudie, the annual Minudie Heritage Association Quilt Show scheduled for this weekend will not be held this year. Sunday the Heritage Association will be holding the Blessing of the Crops Mass at the St Denis Church at 2. There will be a reception at St Thomas Aquinas Church Hall in Joggins afterward. Then there’s a concert with local entertainers at 6 at St. Denis Church. For more information call 902-251-2422.

Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt

The Heritage Models Museum in River Hebert is holding a Motorcycle Scavenger Hunt, Sunday Aug 11. Meet at the former Carquest building in Amherst Town Square, between 9 and 10:30. You will receive the route and a list of items needed to complete the scavenger hunt. The cost is $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. There will be a BBQ at the museum and prize draws. Guitar War in the Fort

Guitar War in the Fort, is Sunday August 11 at Fort Beausejour. At 1, there is a special tasting of oysters from Oyster Beausoleil, and Beausoleil Broussard beer from the Fils du Roy Distillery, to highlight the opening of a New audio-visual presentation and exhibition of objects inspired by Acadian leader Beausoleil Broussard. The Guitar Wars begin at 2, with Denis Surette, Stephen LeBlanc, Jack Downs and Phillippe Desjardins. Bring your chairs or blankets and enjoy the free event.
