Canada Day Pugwash

July 1, 2019

The Gathering of the Clans in Pugwash begins with a sausage and pancake breakfast at 7:30 at the Pugwash Fire Station. The Highland Dance Competition starts at 8:30, the Grand parade is at 10, the Highland Games and the Pipe andDrum Co9mpetitions start at 11. This year’s entertainment will be at the new Pugwash Harbourfront Center, and will feature Christina Martin and Dale Murray, Aycia Putnam and Family, Doris Mason and headliners Rawlins Cross. Fireworks are at 10.

Canada Day Amherst

Canada Day celebrations in Amherst start with the Canada Day Run with the Amherst Striders, from the downtown Tim Hortons at 8. The opening ceremony begins at 11:30 in Victoria Square, with Canada Day cake. There will be vendors and activities in the Square, and music too with Mark McMillan Trio from noon -2. Canada Day Sackville

The Multi K Fun Run and Walk is the first eveny. Meet at the parking lot across from Sackville Public Library at 10:30, runs start at 11. Lots of events at Bill Johnstone park from noon til 3, including musical performances by Tipsy 3. Shinarama will be holding a BBQ fundraiser. Commemorative Event – Amherst Prisoner of War Camp

On Tuesday, a Commemorative Event will be held at the Amherst Armoury, in recognition of the German and Ukrainian prisoners and the 250 Canadian soldiers who stood guard over the Amherst Prisoner of War Camp. It housed 853 POW’s a hundred years ago. Doors open at the Armoury on Acadia Street at 10:30.  The highlight of the event will be a concert by the German Luftwaffe Erfurt Band, which will be sending 42 musicians to the Amherst.  The concert starts…

The Summer of the Handley Page

100 years ago on July 5 1919, the Handley Page Atlantic crashed landed in Parrsboro and remained there for repairs until October. In 1987, the Ships Company Theatre produced a play called The Summer of the Handley Page about the event. A film of the production will be shown Friday and Saturday at 2 at the Hall. The Tidnish Crossroads Community Association are holding the 39th Annual Tidnish Festival, July 6 and 7 at the Rodney Estabrooks Memorial Sports Field.
