National Tartan Day

National Tartan Day in Canada April 6th was proclaimed by the Harper Government on the same date as our National Tartan was proclaimed. (The Maple Leaf Tartan.)

Tartan Day was started here in Nova Scotia by the Federation for Scottish Clans and Culture in 1986. This date has spread and is celebrated around the world and we here in Nova Scotia should be very proud of our endeavours.

On this date we ask people to wear some Tartan in honour of the Scottish immigrants who went on with determination, faith in God, and hard work, to help build this country.
