Back To School Supplies pick up is this week. In Amherst pick up is at Maggie’s Place on Elmwood Drive 9-4 til Thursday and 9-noon on Friday. In partnership with Cumberland Public Libraries, filled backpacks will be available at library branches throughout Cumberland County, except Amherst, during their regular open hours til Friday.

The Cumberland County Exhibition is celebrating it’s 100th Anniversary this year. It’s Aug 27-Sept 1 in Oxford.The exhibition continues to be one of the largest cattle shows in the Maritimes, and a showcase for local 4H clubs. This years entertainment includes hypnotist Jason Cyrus Aug 30 at 8 and Hal Bruce Sept 1 at 7. The End of Summer Community BBQ is Thursday Aug 30, 11-1 at Bill Johnstone Memorial Park in Sackville. The BBQ is free. There will be live music, games for the kids and a bouncy castle.

The Town of Amherst will host an open house at Town Hall at 98 Victoria Street East Thursday afternoon between 4 and 6 to provide information on Phase 1 of the Willow Street infrastructure renewal project. This phase will include the renewal of some of the existing water, sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems as well as the reconstruction and resurfacing of the road in the project area, which is Willow Street between Spring and East Pleasant streets. International Overdose Awareness Day is Friday. Time to Remember. Time to Act. Find out more, at an event in Victoria Square in downtown Amherst from noon-1. There will be a First Voice Presentation, talk to Community Resource professionals and take a look at the Overdose Prevention Kit display. The event is sponsored by Cumberland Opioid Council and Northern Healthy Connections Society.
