This year’s One Book NS author, Gloria Ann Wesley, will be at the Four Fathers Library in Amherst for an Author Reading, Wednesday from 7-8. She will be reading from and discussing her book, If This Is Freedom. The event is free.

The Sackville Curling Club will be holding registration nights Tuesday Oct 10 and Thursday Oct 19 from 6:30-8:30 at the club on Landsdowne Street. Cumberland Area Scouts will be holding their annual Apple Day on October 20th and 21st. The youth will be handing out hand-polished Cortland apples, in front of local businesses in Amherst and Springhill for donations on those days. The Haunted House at 1026 Valley Road Springhill will be open for a haunting good time Saturday Oct 21 and Sat Oct 28. It will be open for young children from noon-4 and 7-10 for a good scare. Haunted House prices are $2 for the afternoon and $5 for the evening. Archway Insurance will hosting a BBQ for the fundraiser. All proceeds are for new equipment for the Springhill Jr/Sr High School track teams.

The 6th Annual Pumpkin Run, organized by the Cumberland Y Service Club, is Saturday, at Dickey Park. The 5K Fun Run starts at 6:00pm. The race route will be guided by jack-o'-lanterns! The cost is $15 for adults, $10 for youth or a $20 family rate. Participants will receive a finishers medal and post race snacks!
