There’s An Evening of Music, Sunday Aug 6 at 7 at the West Amherst Point Baptist Church. This week featuring The Rollikers. The music starts at 7, with a light lunch afterward. Admission is a free will offering.

The GO Project, Children's Day Camp is going on the week of August 7th at the Sackville United Baptist Church. It's an enviroment action based day camp experience for children in grades 2-7. Participants will work on projects and activities to contribute to making the world a better place. Bursaries are available for all participants. The cost is $100. If you are a dog owner, the Town of Amherst will be holding public meetings for your input on a proposed, Off Leash Dog Park, for Amherst. The first meeting will be Monday August 8, from noon-2 at the Community Credit Union Innovation Center. Further meetings will be held August 17 and September 7 from 7-9pm also at the CCUBIC.

In honor of the late Dwight Jones, the Town of Amherst will proclaim Wednesday August 9th Dwight Jones Day. Events across the community include the Junior Golf Invitational at the Amherst Golf Club, Music in Victoria Square, First Baptist Church BBQ, and official dedication of the Dwight Jones Field at the Robb Complex followed by a fireworks show over the marsh at dusk. Branch 10 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Amherst will mark our First World War dead by planting a Vimy tree on Thursday, August 10th.The ceremony will be at 12:15 p.m. in Veteran’s Memorial Park, at the corner of Havelock and Ratchford Streets. The tree is a descendant of an oak tree at Vimy Ridge, whose acorns were gathered following the battle by Lt. Col. Leslie Miller.
