The Joggins Fossil Institute is calling for volunteers to help with its 2017 Adopt-A-Highway Clean-Up Day Wed, May 24. The Clean Up starts at 8:45 a.m. and will take place along Highway 242 between the Joggins Fossil Centre and civil address 1148. Dress appropriately with long-sleeve shirts, long pants and sturdy footwear and to bring sun block, bug repellent and water or juice. Safety vests and gloves will be supplied. The Annual Celebrating Mothers Spring Fashion Show is Fri May 12 starting at 7 at the Amherst Lions Center. 30 Church Women’s Clothing will provide the clothes and footwear. They will be serving dessert, you can enter to win a quilt and there will be a 50/50. Admission is $10, with tickets at the door or in advance by calling Autumn House at 902-667-1344. Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is holding a Community Build Day on Sat May 13th on the second home in Oxford.  You are invited to volunteer for the day to help them bring this home closer to completion.  There is room for 25 volunteers. No experience necessary and they will provide all the safety gear required and a BBQ lunch.  Anyone over 16 years of age can register by visiting habitatns.ca

The Knights of Columbus are serving Breakfast Sat May 13 from 8-11 at their hall on Robie Street. The cost is $6.

The Amherst 50+ Club is holding a Live Auction and Bake Sale, Sat May 13 at their hall on Croft St. Viewing starts at 9, with the auction starting at 9:30. Auction items are new and used including items like a Lowrey organ from the Shirley Babcock Estate donated for the auction. The kitchen will be open as well. The 1st Annual Dayles Grand Market Block Party, is Sat May 13 starting at 9. It’s being hosted by Maritime Mosiac, the Copper Tree Boutique, Holy Cow Café, Gallery 8, HD Coins and Collectables, Not Too Shabby and more. There will be market vendors, the Bangkok Food Truck, Trider Beer and more. Musical guests will include Drew Polegato, Hannah Melanson, Jon McKeil, Mitchell St. Peter, Drew Moore, Michelle LeBlanc and Pete Frenetre.
