The Joggins Fossil Institute is pleased to invite you to the opening reception of the exhibition Laurell Hamilton: Explorations in Acrylic on Sat Apr 22 at 2 at the Joggins Fossil Centre. Laurell is a resident of Lower Cove, and her exhibit is on til May 22.  The reception is part of the opening day activities at the Joggins Fossil Centre which opens on Apr 22 – Earth Day – at 10 for the 2017 season.

There’s a Benefit for Carleen Card, Sat Apr 22 from 2-11 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. There will be lots of local entertainment, a silent auction and a 50/50. Proceeds to help with her cancer treatment expenses.

There’s is an Open Mic at the Air Force Club, Sat Apr 22 starting at 3.

Cumberland YREACH is holding another free International Cooking class. This time it’s a taste of Ireland, with Leanne Byrnes. It’s Mon Apr 24 from 6-8 at Maggie’s Place. The Zonta Club of Amherst is now accepting applications for the Kim Wry Memorial Bursary. It’s $1000 and meant to be used by a woman who qualifies as a mature student and is enrolled in a post-secondary program. Applications are available at the Amherst Post Office or at NSCC in Amherst or Springhill. May 31 is the deadline.

The office of Bill Casey is putting on an information Session, Tue Apr 25 from 9:30-noon, at the Community Credit Union Business Innovation Centre. If you are retiring soon, or retired and have questions about the Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security, Karen Haynes, Citizen Service Specialist, Service Canada, to host an information session on Canada Pension Plan and Old Age Security programs. Caregivers Nova Scotia will be holding a workshop called, Advance Care Planning For Caregivers: Getting Started, Wed Apr 26 from 1:30-3:30 at Christ Church Parish Hall. The workshop is free, and will get you started making decisions about future acute care or end of life care plans. It’s free, but seating is limited.
