There’s a Poker Tournament and Karaoke Party Fundraiser, Sat Apr 15 at the Dr Carson and Marion Murray Community Center in Springhill. Poker from 9-5 and karaoke from 5-1. It’s a fundraiser for the Ripley children. Admission is a donation at the door.

The Zonta Club of Amherst is now accepting applications for the Kim Wry Memorial Bursary. It’s $1000 and meant to be used by a woman who qualifies as a mature student and is enrolled in a post-secondary program. Applications are available at the Amherst Post Office or at NSCC in Amherst or Springhill. May 31 is the deadline.

Wednesday April 19th is National Canadian Film Day 150. It will be the largest film festival, with over 1700 events from coast to coast. The Springhill Library will be participating, with a showing of Barney’s Version, with Dustin Hoffman, Minnie Driver and Paul Giamatti. The show starts at 7.

Fans of Symphony Nova Scotia will experience a rare opportunity to hear the orchestra outside HRM.
