8th Annual SMILE Walk/Run
The 8th Annual SMILE Walk/Run is Sat Apr 1. Registration is $10 and starts at 9 on the main floor of the Wallace McCain Student Center. The SMILE program is run by Mount Allison students, and the Cumberland SMILE & SHINE Program organization in Amherst. It pairs students from Mount Allison with children and youth in surrounding communities who have special needs. The Mount A Choral Society presents Music: Sacred and Profane, Sun Apr 2 at 3 at Trinity St Stephens United Church. The Choral Society will be joined by a chamber orchestra, the Mount A Brass Quintet and organist Jennifer del Motte. (The major work on the program will be Requiem Mass by Gabriel Faure.) The Bagtown Babblers Toastmasters will be holding an Open House, Monday Apr 3 from 7-8:30, at NSCC Springhill, in room 228. The NSCC Cumberland Business Administration Students are presenting a Spring Market, Wed Apr 5 from 10-2 at the Amherst site. There will be community vendors, a yard sale, BBQ, bake sale, 50/50 draw, live music and campus tours. Check out what NSCC has to offer. The admission is free. National Tartan Day in Canada April 6th was proclaimed by the Harper Government on the same date as our National Tartan was proclaimed. (The Maple Leaf Tartan.) Tartan Day was started here in Nova Scotia by the Federation for Scottish Clans and Culture in 1986. For the third consecutive year, the Town of Sackville has partnered with Poet Laureate, Marilyn Lerch, Tidewater Books, all public schools from Dorchester to Port Elgin, Mount Allison students, The Drew Nursing Home and several local poets and writers to celebrate Poetry Month in April.
